My Personal Colouring

The Significance of Personal Colouring

Personal colouring is a for self-knowledge tool, to discover how to wear and use colours to your advantage.

Knowledge is something that will always be relevant and self-knowledge is the subject I talk about the most around here.

Knowing and discovering how to use the colours that best suit you, especially in hair and make-up, which are two very important points when it comes to personal colouring, gives you freedom of choice and security in knowing what best suits you.

Understanding Personal Colouring

So personal colouring, also known as skin tone or complexion, refers to the unique combination of a person's skin, hair, and eye color.

Understanding one's personal coloring is crucial in choosing clothing, makeup, and hair colors that complement and enhance individual features.

There are various methods to determine personal coloring, often categorized into different color analysis systems.

The test I’m trained in and apply with my customer is called extended seasonal colour analysis, which classifies individuals into 12 different "seasons" based on their undertones and contrasts.

These seasons are typically categorised as Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, and within each season there are 3 possibilities:

  • Spring: People with warm undertones and light to medium contrasts in their colouring.

They tend to have lighter hair (ranging from golden blonde to light brown), light eyes (blue, green, hazel), and peachy or golden skin tones.

Spring can be Clear, Warm or Light.

  • Summer: Individuals with cool undertones and light contrasts.

They often have ash blonde or light to medium brown hair, light-colored eyes (blue, green, gray), and fair to medium skin with pink or blue undertones.

Summer can be Light, Cold or Soft.

  • Autumn: Those with warm undertones and deeper contrasts fall into this category.

They may have red or auburn hair, warm brown or hazel eyes, and skin with golden or peachy undertones.

Autumn can be Deep, Warm or Soft.

  • Winter: People with cool undertones and high contrasts in their colouring.

They typically have dark hair (black, deep brown), intense eye colors (black, dark brown, deep blue), and skin with cool undertones ranging from fair to deep.

Winter can be Deep, Cold or Clear.

Each person is classified in one of the 12 seasons. As a result from my test, I am a Deep Autumn:

Beauty with Personal Colouring

Personal colouring can enhance your beauty and help you choose colour for clothing, hair, makeup and accessories, making your daily choices easier and natural.

Determining your personal colouring can help in choosing colours that harmonize with your skin, hair, and eye tones.

Wearing colours that complement your natural colouring can brighten your face, make your eyes pop, and overall enhance your appearance.

For instance, wearing clothing or makeup in shades that align with your personal colouring can make you look more vibrant, while wearing colours that clash with your undertones may wash you out or make you appear tired.

However, it's important to note that personal colouring is an approved guideline, in person and unchanging, meaning you only need to do it once in your life as our colour will not change.

Boosting Confidence through Your Best Colors

Experimenting with different colors and styles can also be a fun way to express oneself and discover what works best for an individual's unique features and personality.
